Subject: Programming the ZKB2
keyboard
Resources needed:
PC Computer with MS-DOS installed
ZKB2 Keyboard
Programmable Function (PF) Keys - Utility Software diskette Optional item:
If the PC computer uses a PS/2 style keyboard
connection, you will need a
keyboard connector adapter to connect the ZKB2 keyboard to the PC
computer. NOTE
:
To run the "Programmable Function (PF) Keys Utility
Software," the Operating System of
the PC computer must be in MS-DOS. Do not useDOS. Do not use the MS-DOS Prompt console
from
Windows 95/98 or Windows NT Environment to run the program. You will need
to boot
to MS-DOS if possible.
To create a MS-DOS
boot disk from windows, follow these steps:
1) Place a blank
floppy diskette into your floppy drive.
2) Start->Run...
3) In the space provided, enter format a: /s
4) When the disk is done being formatted, close the window that appears.
5) With the floppy diskette still in the computer, restart the computer.
If the computer does not start to a MS-DOS prompt, you need to verifythat your computer
is using the floppy drive as a boot device. This is a setting in the computer's BIOS. Consult
your technician before attempting to change this.
1) Connect the ZKB2 keyboard directly to the PC computer.
Do
not attach
ZKBI-2 Interface Module to the ZKB2
keyboard. If the PC Computer
uses a PS/2 style of keyboard connection, use the PS/2 keyboard adapter. 2) Boot the computer to MS-DOS. 3) Insert the diskette,
"Programmable Function (PF) Keys - Utility Software" into the floppy drive. For this procedure the

will be designated as the floppy drive. 4) At the prompt type,

, then press <
ENTER
>. 5) At the prompt type,
keytags
, then press
<
ENTER
>. 6) A menu will appear with options. 7) Press <
C
> to Clear All, press <
Y
> to start. This will clear all memory
information in the keyboard including corrupted data. Wait for the information
to be cleared. 8) to be cleared. 8) Verify that the response "Clear all PF keys, OK" is
displayed. 9) Press <
D
> to Download and in front of "Driver:\Path\File-name:"
type,
texscan.pro
, and press <
ENTER
>. Wait for the download of keyboard information. 10) Verify that the response "Download to K/B Memory, OK" is displayed. 11) Press <
Q
> to Quit. 12) Remove ZKB2 keyboard from the PC Computer. 13) Connect the ZKB2 keyboard to the ZKBI-2 Module. 14) Connect the other end of the ZKBI-2 Module to the character generator. 15) Verify that the power to the character generator is "ON". 16) Press <
SELECT
>

. 17) Verify that the MENU (green light) on the keyboard is on. 18) Check for key functions on the top two rows.
IMPORTANT:
Whenever power to the character generator or the ZKB2 keyboard is
turned off and then on again, be
sure that the <
SELECT
> key is pressed only once and that the MENU
(green light) is ON.
Do not press the
<SELECT> key twice
. Doing
so will erase the memory in the ZKB2 keyboard and may
need reprogramming.
